This is an art long forgotten in today's society. It's a shame, too, because this tradition is so sentimental and emotional. I love the idea of filling my daughters hope chest with dreams, memories, and love.
My children also have the tradition of the christmas ornament. Each year, the ornament represents something special that happened in their life: first car, getting glasses or braces, graduation. It's neat to know others do this too!
