Spring Activities for Families

Spring is my favorite time of year. The world comes alive and we are ready to play with it!
There are many exciting and creative activities that we can do to truly enjoy this time of year.
Go On a Scavenger Hunt
This is an exciting activity for young and old alike. After giving them a list of common spring items to be found in the open, plan a picnic on the lawn.
Things like spring flowers, twigs, birds, daffodils, crocuses, spring sounds and animals are excellent items for them to find.
Have a Picnic
Laying a colorful picnic blanket on the lawn; enjoy your favorite sandwich and snack food. A visit to the park will also be another spring time fun activity.
Kite Flying
The earliest memories I have of growing up is flying kites on the beach every Spring time. Can’t get to the beach, use your backyard. It was something that every one did. Inexpensive kites can be bought from stores like Walmart or Kmart. Online patterns to make your own is also another option.
Plant Flowers
Flowers are synonymous with Spring. There are so many beautiful smelling flowers like hyacinths and lilies. It is a wonderful time of year for planting flowers like anemonie and enjoying the outdoors with the family. You can plant seeds or buy seedlings. They are usually available at grocery stores or at Home Depot or Lowes. Flowers can be in planted in pots or in flower beds.
Catching Butterflies
Another Spring time activity we enjoy is catching butterflies. We purchase from the dollar store butterflies catcher (they are usually a $1.00) and the whole family head to the park. It is a wonderful time chasing those butterflies. We then put them in little jars. After a few hours we release them…low cost fun and a lot of memories.
A Trip to the Library
Our family loves to read and going to the library is a much anticipated activity. Even our teenage children join us. We all choose two books on a Spring time theme. We give ourselves three weeks to read and enjoy. Try topics like bugs in the Spring, why things grow or lifecycle of the butterfly. Books are windows to the world so open some windows this Spring!
Cupcakes and Spring go Together
Sitting on the deck enjoying freshly baked cupcakes is always a fun family get together. Here is an excellent video on making Ladybug cupcakes. Young and old will have fun making these ladybug cupcakes. As we embrace Spring, take time to stop and enjoy this beautiful creation God has made. These activities will sure to give you the opportunity to do just that.
